Casey and his Heart

Where to begin??? As you all know Casey has a heart murmur (extra heart sounds that are produced as a result of turbulent blood flow that is sufficient to produce audible noise. Most murmurs can only be heard with the assistance of a stethoscope). The Heart murmur that Casey has is a (functional murmur or "physiologic murmur" is a heart murmur that is primarily due to physiologic conditions outside the heart, as opposed to structural defects in the heart itself. Functional murmurs are benign an "innocent murmur"). This is no big deal but because he was only 1 years old he was sent to a cardiologist that determined that not only did Casey have a " innocent" heart murmur he also had Atrial Septal Defect which is (a form of congenital heart defect that enables blood flow between the left and right atria via the interatrial septum). In other words... All unborn babies have a whole in the heart between the 2 upper chambers to help bypass the blood away from the lungs. This hole usually closes when your baby is born but Casey's never closed. Casey, 8 years later was sent back to the cardiologist only to find that the hole in fact was closing on its own, which it should have been completely closed by the time he was 7. The doctor said there is no reason that Casey should have restricted activities anymore nor does he need to be seen by a cardiologist again until he is 64 and having chest pains. This was such great news and I am so glad that Casey does not need open Heart Surgery to close the hole. 2 days after Casey's appointment on March 7th he started having chest pains, go figure but i have come up with the conclusion that he may have acid reflux like his grandpa Dieterich and Uncle Brian. Hopefully this chest pain is minor...lol
